Application to Real Power Networks of a Method to Locate Partial Discharges Based On Electromagnetic Time Reversal

The paper presents an experimental validation of a method to locate partial discharges (PDs) on power distribution and transmission networks. is based electromagnetic time reversal (EMTR) theory, it uses Transmission Line Matrix (TLM) model describe the propagation PD signals in reversed time. Since PDs are regarded as symptom insulation degradation, on-line location considered important approach monitoring integrity network, with aim detecting preventing faults improving network reliability. In this paper, EMTR-based described its effectiveness localization using only one measurement point demonstrated three real 33 kV lines. Its proved without electromagnetically noisy environment, accuracy evaluated respect different signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) levels shows that able error 0.14% total length line absence noise, always lower than 0.5% for SNR down −7 dB.
